The Chainsmokers

“Don’t Let Me Down” is a song by American production duo The Chainsmokers. The song features the vocals of American recording artist Daya, and was released on 5 February 2016, through Disruptor and Columbia Records. “Don’t Let Me Down” became both The Chainsmokers’ and Daya’s first top 5 single on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached top 10 positions in several countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The music video for the song was released to YouTube on 29 April 2016. In it, Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall (The Chainsmokers) get into a yellow convertible at sunrise and begin to drive down a wooded mountain road. Intercut with shots of them driving is Daya, dressed in black leather pants and jacket, singing in a misty field full of bushes.

Taggart and Pall stop the car when Daya, surrounded by dancers dressed similarly as her, stand in the middle of the road, blocking it. Daya sings as the girls perform dance moves around her while Taggart and Pall watch from the car. Suddenly, the car begins rocking, bouncing up and down on its wheels. As Daya sings and the girls dance, walking towards the car, the jerks and bounces get more violent. Intercut with these scenes is more shots of Daya singing in the misty field.

As the song nears it’s end, the car rocks very violently as Taggart and Pall are lifted into the air, slowly rising about eight feet above the car before stopping. Daya sings the last few lines of the song as the girls dance around her. After a brief pause, the video cuts to much later, with Taggart and Pall still hanging in the air as the sky turns to night behind them.

The duo had a hit in two countries with their 2014 single “#Selfie”, which peaked at number sixteen on the Billboard Hot 100 and number eleven in the United Kingdom. Several singles such as “Roses” and “Don’t Let Me Down”. became top-ten singles on the Hot 100 in the USA. They released their debut EP, Bouquet, in October 2015. Their single “Closer”, featuring vocals from Halsey became their first number-one single on both the Billboard Hot 100 and in the United Kingdom, having stayed in the top place for five weeks as of 20 September 2016.
